چکیده

Different poses of 3D models are very often given in different positions and orientations in space. Since most of the computer graphics algorithms do not satisfy geometric invariance, it is very important to bring shapes into a canonical coordinate frame before any processing. In this paper we consider the problem of finding the best alignment between two or more different poses of the same object represented by triangle meshes sharing the same connectivity. Firstly, we developed a method to select a region of interest (ROI) which has a perfect alignment over the two poses (up to a rigid movement). Secondary, we solved a simplified version of the Largest Common Point-set (LCP) problem with a-priori knowledge about point correspondence, in order to align the ROIs. We eventually align the poses performing least square rigid registration. Our method makes no assumption about the starting positions of the objects and can also be used with more than two poses at once. It is fast, non-iterative, easy to reproduce and brings the poses into the best alignment whatever the initial positions are.

Image processing methods, which can visualize objects inside the human body, are of special interests. In clinical diagnosis using medical images, integration of useful data from separate images is often desired. The images have to be geometrically aligned for better observation. The procedure of mapping points from the reference image to corresponding points in the floating image is called Ima...

Matching 3D Shapes Using 2D Conformal Representations

Matching 3D shapes is a fundamental problem in Medical Imaging with many applications including, but not limited to, shape deformation analysis, tracking etc. Matching 3D shapes poses a computationally challenging task. The problem is especially hard when the transformation sought is diffeomorphic and non-rigid between the shapes being matched. In this paper, we propose a novel and computationa...

Rigid Registration

Rigid registration is the process of identifying the correspondences between two overlapping shapes that were subject to a rigid transformation. Once the correspondences have been established, the underlying rigid transformation can be estimated in the weighted least squares sense with closed form solution. A correspondence is such a pair of points that while they are described in two different...

First Steps Toward the Automatic Registration of Deformable Scans

Three-dimensional registration is the process of aligning scans of different incomplete views of an object such that their corresponding regions agree in space and time. It is used to build digital complete models from partial acquisitions of real-world objects which typically contain noise, outliers, and acquisition holes due to occlusions and hardware limitations. For non-rigid models, such a...
